Seafood gumbo is a delicious dish that you can make at home with a few simple steps. Here's how:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh green onions, chopped
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups seafood stock
  • 1 pound crabmeat
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pint oysters, undrained
  • 1 pound crawfish tails, peeled
  • hot cooked rice, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat; gradually whisk in flour until smooth.
  2. Cook, whisking constantly, for 20-25 minutes or until roux is caramel-colored.
  3. Add onions, bell pepper, celery and garlic; cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
  4. Add parsley, green onions, bay leaves, thyme, oregano, cayenne, black pepper and salt; cook, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes or until vegetables are very tender.
  5. Add seafood stock and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
  6. Add crabmeat, shrimp, oysters and crawfish tails; cook for 10-15 minutes or until seafood is cooked through.
  7. Remove bay leaves and serve over hot cooked rice.
