How do astronauts prepare for space missions?
Preparing for space missions is an extensive process that can take years. Astronauts must undergo rigorous physical and mental training to prepare them both for the journey to space and for the work they will do once they arrive. The physical training includes cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and high-performance aircraft training. These exercises help them maintain their physical fitness and prepare them for the rigors of space travel. The mental preparation is just as important. They must learn to manage stress, work in teams and make sound decisions under extreme conditions. They also undergo training to adjust to the isolation and confinement of space travel. This includes training in simulators that recreate the experience of living and working in a confined, isolated environment like a spacecraft.
