Quaoar is a dwarf planet that orbits in the Kuiper Belt beyond the orbit of Neptune. It was discovered in 2002 by astronomers Chad Trujillo and Michael Brown. Quaoar has a diameter of approximately 560 miles (900 kilometers) and is one of the largest known objects in the Kuiper Belt. It is named after the creation deity of the Tongva people, the indigenous people of the Los Angeles Basin.

One of the distinguishing features of Quaoar is its reddish color, which is caused by the presence of organic molecules on its surface. Additionally, it has a very low density, which indicates that it is composed largely of water ice. Quaoar also has a large moon, which was discovered in 2006 and is informally named Weywot.
