What are the layers of the Earth?

The Earth is made up of four layers: the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core. Each layer has its own unique characteristics and composition, and they are arranged in order of increasing depth.

• The crust: This is the outermost layer of the Earth and it is the thinnest layer, ranging from 5-70 km thick. It is composed mainly of solid rocks and minerals.
• The mantle: This layer is located beneath the crust and is the largest layer, making up about 84% of the Earth's volume. It is made up of hot, dense rock and is responsible for the movement of tectonic plates.
• The outer core: This layer is located beneath the mantle and is composed of liquid iron and nickel. It is responsible for generating the Earth's magnetic field.
• The inner core: This is the innermost layer of the Earth and is a solid ball of iron and nickel. It is under tremendous pressure and is extremely hot, with temperatures reaching up to 5,500 °C.
