Transform boundaries occur when two plates slide past each other horizontally, neither creating nor destroying crust. These boundaries are also known as transform faults.

For example, divergent boundaries are associated with volcanic activity, convergent boundaries are associated with earthquakes and mountain building, and transform boundaries are associated with earthquakes.
