What is the airline's policy on travel with a pet on my Delta Air Lines flight to Mexico?
Delta Air Lines welcomes pets to travel in the cabin, as checked baggage, or as cargo. However, the availability of pet travel depends on the destination, the time of year, and the aircraft type.
For flights to Mexico, pets are not allowed to travel in the cabin, but they can travel as checked baggage or as cargo. Delta Air Lines allows a maximum of two pets per passenger to travel as checked baggage on domestic flights, and one pet per passenger on international flights to/from the US, Canada, or Mexico. The cost for pet travel varies depending on the destination and the type of service you choose.
To ensure the safety and comfort of your pet during travel, Delta Air Lines has specific requirements for pet carriers and documentation. The pet carrier must meet certain size and material requirements and be stored under the seat in front of you or in the cargo hold. You must also provide a health certificate and vaccination records for your pet.
Delta Air Lines allows small dogs, cats and household birds to travel in the cabin for a one-way fee, collected at check-in. They must be able to fit in a small, ventilated pet carrier that fits under the seat in front of you. The maximum weight for a pet carrier is 20 pounds, including the pet.
Carrier Requirements:
- The carrier must be rigid and have a solid top.
- It must have proper ventilation on at least 3 sides domestically or 4 on international flights.
- The carrier must have a solid door.
- Nuts and bolts must secure any loose parts.
- The carrier should be large enough for animals to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
Pets Allowed:
- All warm blooded mammals and birds including show or exhibition animals.
- Delta Cargo will not ship dangerous or offensive animals, unhealthy animals or pets that will be banned by the country of destination.
Fees:
- The fee for taking your pet in the cabin varies depending on your travel plans.
- Flights to/from the U.S.A, Canada, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands incur a pet fee of $95, flights outside the U.S. incur a pet fee of $200; and flights to Brazil incur a pet fee of $75.
Booking:
- You must book your pet's travel in advance.
- You can book your pet's travel online, by phone, or at the airport.
