The highest mountain in Africa is Mount Kilimanjaro which is located in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro is one of the world's Seven Summits, which is the name given to each of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. It stands at an impressive height of 19,341 feet (5,895 meters).
Kilimanjaro is actually a dormant volcano and is made up of three distinct volcanic cones. These are Kibo, Shira, and Mawenzi. Kibo is the tallest of the three cones and is the one that has earned Kilimanjaro its reputation as a challenging and rewarding climb for mountaineers.
The mountain is a major tourist attraction for Tanzania and is part of the Kilimanjaro National Park which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
