Mount Erciyes is a prominent mountain located in central Turkey, near the city of Kayseri. According to geological studies, the mountain was formed around 20 million years ago during the Neogene period, as a result of volcanic activity. In the past, the mountain was called Argaeus, and it has been known for its strategic importance throughout the history.

Mount Erciyes is an active volcano with a height of 3,917 meters (12,848 feet). Due to its magnificent slopes, it is a popular destination for outdoor activities, especially skiing. The snow-covered mountain provides ideal conditions for skiing from November to April. There are four main skiing areas in Erciyes, Develi, Tekir, Hacilar, and Hisarcik, with a total ski run length of 102 km.

During the Roman era, Mount Erciyes was considered sacred and dedicated to the goddess Kybele. The mountain was used as a quarry to supply building stones for the neighboring cities. During the Byzantine era, a fortress was built on the mountain to control the trade routes in the region. Later on, the Ottomans used the mountain as a strategic military base.

Today, Mount Erciyes is one of the most important tourist attractions in Turkey. It offers not only skiing but also trekking, mountain climbing, and paragliding. The area around the mountain is home to many historical sites, including the Kültepe archaeological site and the Kayseri Castle. Besides, visitors can enjoy the traditional cuisine and culture of the local people.
