What is the meaning of the word "surah" in the Quran?

Surah is an Arabic word used in the Quran to refer to its chapters or sections. The Quran is divided into 114 surahs, named after a word or incident mentioned in it. Each surah consists of a number of verses, which vary in length and subject matter.
