The Parthenon is a temple located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. It was built in the 5th century BCE during the height of the Athenian Empire, and is considered one of the greatest achievements of ancient Greek architecture. The Parthenon was built as a tribute to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of Athens, and is therefore often referred to as the Temple of Athena.

The temple was constructed using white marble and features ornate sculptures and intricate designs. The most famous of these sculptures are the friezes that depict scenes from Greek mythology, including the famous Elgin Marbles that are now housed in the British Museum. The Parthenon has been studied and admired for centuries for its architectural perfection and its artistic and cultural significance.
