The smallest bird in the world is the bee hummingbird, also known as Mellisuga helenae. They are only found in Cuba and the Isla de la Juventud, and are approximately 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) in length and weigh about 0.06 ounces (1.8 grams). They are about the same size as a large insect and are known for their iridescent feathers and agility in flight.
