The Seven Voyages of Sinbad is a story from the collection of tales known as One Thousand and One Nights (also called Arabian Nights). The story follows Sinbad, a wealthy merchant who sets out on seven voyages, encountering various dangers and adventures along the way.
In his first voyage, Sinbad is shipwrecked on an island inhabited by giant birds, and manages to escape by tying himself to their legs as they take flight. In his second voyage, he becomes the servant of a wealthy king and is forced to help the king defeat a giant sea creature. In his third voyage, Sinbad is marooned on an island where he encounters a tribe of cannibals. He manages to escape by tricking them into eating poisonous fruit.
Sinbad's fourth voyage takes him to an island inhabited by a giant snake. He tricks the snake into coiling itself around a tree, allowing him to escape. In his fifth voyage, Sinbad discovers a roc's egg and manages to trade it for wealth when he returns to his home city. In his sixth voyage, Sinbad is enslaved by a group of ape-like creatures, but is eventually freed by a kind hermit. Finally, in his seventh and last voyage, Sinbad discovers a city made entirely of gold and jewels, and returns home a wealthy man.
