The Tale of the Sage Duban and King Sindbad is one of the many stories in the collection of tales known as the Arabian Nights, or One Thousand and One Nights. It is a story of greed, betrayal, and revenge.

The story begins with King Sindbad, who is known for his wisdom and intelligence. He is visited by a physician named Duban, who offers to become the king's personal physician. The king is impressed with Duban's knowledge and hires him on the spot.

However, Duban has a hidden agenda. He wants revenge on the king's chamberlain, who had wronged him in the past. Duban convinces the king to allow him to treat the chamberlain, but secretly poisons him during the treatment. He then reveals to the king what he has done, saying that the chamberlain had been plotting against the king.

But Duban's plot is not yet complete. He tells the king that he too is at risk, and offers him an antidote to the poison. However, he warns the king that the antidote is not effective on its own, and must be followed by a treatment of his own invention.

When the king agrees to the treatment, Duban reveals that the second treatment involves cutting off the king's head. The king realizes he has been betrayed and orders Duban's execution. But Duban had anticipated this, and leaves behind a book of his knowledge as a way of making amends. The book proves to be a valuable treasure, and the king forgives Duban posthumously.

The Tale of the Sage Duban and King Sindbad is a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed and revenge, and the importance of wisdom and trust.
