As of 2021, the record for the fastest 100-meter dash is held by Usain Bolt of Jamaica. Bolt set the current world record of 9.58 seconds on August 16, 2009, at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
At the time of the race, Bolt was just 22 years old and had already won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He went on to win three more gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics before retiring in 2017.
