Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes was a Byzantine emperor who reigned from 1068 to 1071. He was born in Cappadocia and was a member of an aristocratic family. Romanos IV is known for his military campaigns against the Seljuk Turks, which led to his capture and deposition.

In 1071, he led an army against the Seljuks in the Battle of Manzikert. The battle was a disaster for the Byzantine Empire and Romanos IV was captured.
After his capture, Romanos IV was deposed as emperor and replaced by Michael VII Doukas. He was later blinded and died in captivity in 1072. Romanos IV Diogenes is remembered as a valiant soldier who fought to protect the Byzantine Empire from its enemies.
