Believe it or not, but the answer to this question is actually yes! Counting the number of chirps that a cricket makes within a certain amount of time can help predict the temperature outside.

The reason why crickets chirp is due to a process known as stridulation. This process involves the male cricket rubbing its wings together in order to create a sound that will attract nearby females. The chirping sound that we hear is actually the result of the wings rubbing together.

Now, to predict the temperature, you simply need to count the number of chirps that the cricket makes within a 15-second time span, and then add 37 to that number. The resulting sum is roughly equivalent to the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.

While this method of predicting the weather is not completely accurate, it is still a fun and interesting way to test out the accuracy of the predictions.
