Korean bibimbap is a tasty and nutritious meal that you can easily make at home. Traditionally, it is made with rice, vegetables, meat, and egg, but you can customize it to your liking. Here's how to prepare bibimbap:

  • Cook rice according to package instructions.
  • Prepare the vegetables. Some common vegetables used in bibimbap are spinach, bean sprouts, carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms. Slice or julienne the vegetables, blanch them in boiling water, and season them with salt and sesame oil.
  • Cook the protein. You can use beef, chicken, pork, tofu, or any other protein of your choice. Marinate the protein in soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and garlic, then sauté or grill it.
  • Fry an egg.
  • Assemble the bibimbap. In a bowl, place the rice at the bottom, then arrange the vegetables and protein on top of the rice. Add the fried egg and gochujang (Korean chili paste) on top.

Enjoy your homemade bibimbap!

Here is a recipe for Korean bibimbap that you can prepare at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon roasted sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef sirloin
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 zucchini, julienned
  • 1 cup spinach, blanched and drained
  • 1 cup bean sprouts, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice
  • 1 egg, fried over easy
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the gochujang, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, water, sesame seeds, vinegar, and garlic.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  3. Add the onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the carrot and zucchini and cook until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Add the spinach and bean sprouts and cook until wilted, about 2 minutes.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet and stir to combine. Add the rice and stir to coat.
  5. Divide the bibimbap among serving bowls. Top each bowl with an egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • If you can't find gochujang, you can substitute with Sriracha sauce or another chili paste.
  • To make the bibimbap more flavorful, you can add other vegetables, such as mushrooms, bell peppers, or broccoli.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit the beef and add tofu or tempeh instead.
  • To make the bibimbap more filling, you can add cooked noodles or quinoa.
  • To make the bibimbap more kid-friendly, omit the chili paste and add cooked chicken or shrimp instead.
