How many surahs are there in the Quran?
The Quran is the holy book of Islam and consists of 114 chapters or surahs, each containing verses known as ayahs. Surahs vary in length from a few verses to several pages. The surahs are arranged in order of decreasing length, with the exception of the first surah, which is a short prayer, and the last surah, which is often recited as a protective charm.
The Quran is considered by Muslims to be the literal word of God, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over a period of 23 years. It is the primary source of Islamic law and ethics, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential works of literature in human history.
