WestJet's Policy on Unaccompanied Minors

WestJet offers assistance to unaccompanied minors travelling alone on a WestJet flight.

Children aged 8 to 11 years old are required to use the Unaccompanied Minor service. Children aged 12 to 17 years old may use the service if they choose.

There is a fee for the Unaccompanied Minor service, and it must be booked in advance. The service includes:

  • Pre-boarding to get settled on the plane before other guests
  • Supervision and assistance throughout the flight
  • Assistance with connections and baggage retrieval
  • Escort to the designated pick-up person at the destination

If your child requires medication, a medical condition or special care, they may not be eligible for the Unaccompanied Minor service. In this case, a caregiver may be required to travel with the child.

For more information on WestJet's Unaccompanied Minor policy, please visit the WestJet website or contact the WestJet customer service team.

WestJet's policy on unaccompanied minors is as follows:

  • Children must be at least 8 years old to travel alone on WestJet flights.
  • Unaccompanied minors must be booked on direct flights only, or flights with a touchdown where guests are not required to disembark or change aircraft.
  • Unaccompanied minors must be booked on WestJet flights only, and cannot be used on flights operated by our airline partners.
  • Unaccompanied minors must not depart or arrive before 5:30 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m. (where we have more than one flight per day to the destination).
  • Unaccompanied minors must not travel on overnight flights.

In order to book an unaccompanied minor on a WestJet flight, you will need to provide the following information:

  • The child's date of birth, gender, and full name as it is shown on their identification.
  • The full names (as shown on government identification), addresses, and cell phone numbers (or other contact number) for the guardians transporting your child to and from the airport.
  • A photocopy (not the original) of either the child's birth certificate or one other piece of government issued identification showing the child's date of birth and gender.

At check-in, you will also need to pay a $100 unaccompanied minor fee.

On the day of travel, your child will need to check in at least 90 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. They will then be escorted by a WestJet staff member to their gate and onto the aircraft. Once on board, your child will be seated in a designated area and will be supervised by a WestJet staff member throughout the flight.

Upon arrival at their destination, your child will be met by a WestJet staff member and escorted to baggage claim. They will then be released to the adult who is listed on their Unaccompanied Minor form.
