The famous bridge in Afton, Minnesota is the Afton Lift Bridge. It spans the Saint Croix River and connects Afton, Minnesota to Houlton, Wisconsin. The bridge is 685 feet long and was built in 1954 to replace the previous swing bridge that was constructed in 1872. The Afton Lift Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and was closed to vehicle traffic in 2017, but remains open for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
