The fastest human-powered vehicle in the world is the VeloX 3, a recumbent bicycle designed and built by students from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. In 2013, Sebastiaan Bowier, a member of the team, set the current world speed record for a human-powered vehicle by reaching a speed of 83.13 miles per hour (133.78 kilometers per hour) at the World Human Powered Speed Challenge in Nevada, USA.

The VeloX 3 is a highly aerodynamic vehicle, with a teardrop-shaped carbon fiber shell that completely encloses the rider. The bicycle is powered solely by human pedaling, with the gears and chain mounted at the front of the vehicle. The rider lies in a reclined position, facing backwards, and uses a small camera and monitor to see the road ahead. The VeloX 3 also features custom-made wheels with a diameter of 20 inches (50.8 cm), which help to reduce air resistance and improve overall speed.
