Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain peak in Europe, and it is located in the south of Russia, in the Caucasus Mountains. Mount Elbrus stands at an elevation of 5,642 meters (18,510 feet) above sea level. Two separate peaks make up Mount Elbrus, with its eastern peak being the highest. Both peaks are dormant volcanoes, with the last recorded eruption occurring around 50 A.D.

The Caucasus Mountains stretch between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, forming the border between Russia and Georgia. Mount Elbrus is part of the greater Caucasus range.
