Charity, or Zakat, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is an essential part of the faith. The concept of Zakat is mentioned numerous times in the Quran and Hadith, stressing its importance in Islam. Muslims are required to give a portion of their wealth to the poor and needy as a means of purifying their wealth and helping those in need. In addition to Zakat, Muslims are also encouraged to give Sadaqah, which is voluntary charity given out of the goodness of one's heart.

Islam places great importance on social welfare and encourages Muslims to take care of the less fortunate in society. This can be seen in the concept of Zakat and Sadaqah, as well as in the obligation to provide for one's family and community. Muslims are encouraged to be generous and compassionate towards those in need, and to work towards creating a just and equitable society.
