It is the most populous county in Georgia and the fourth-most populous county in the southeastern United States. The county seat and largest city is Atlanta, which is also the state capital.
The county was established in 1853 and named after Robert Fulton, the inventor of the steamboat. It covers an area of 534 square miles (1,380 km²) and is home to several major corporations, including Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, and UPS.
