Which countries accept Taiwan's passport?
Taiwan is a self-governing democratic island that has had a difficult history regarding its diplomatic relations with other countries. Although Taiwan issues its own passports, the People's Republic of China (PRC) claims Taiwan as part of its territory and pressure other countries to not recognize Taiwan diplomatically. As a result, the number of countries recognizing Taiwan as a sovereign state and accepting Taiwan passports has been limited.
As of 2023, a total of 15 countries recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state and accept Taiwan passports:
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Nauru
- Palau
- Paraguay
- St. Kitts and Nevis
- St. Lucia
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- Tuvalu
- Marshall Islands
- Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland)
- Malawi
- Republic of Somaliland
- The Holy See (Vatican City State)
- United States
Note that the United States does not formally recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state, but accepts Taiwan passports for some official purposes, such as entry into the United States.
