Who are the main villains in the Lord of the Rings universe?
In the Lord of the Rings universe, there are several villains that pose a threat to the protagonists. The two main villains are Sauron and Saruman. Sauron is a dark lord who is the primary antagonist of the entire series. He was once a Maiar, or angelic being, who was corrupted by the evil Morgoth. Sauron created the One Ring, which is the focus of the entire story, and seeks to reclaim it in order to conquer Middle-earth. He is represented by the Eye of Sauron, a symbol of his power and influence.
Saruman, on the other hand, is a wizard who was corrupted by Sauron and turned to his side. He was once the leader of the White Council, but became obsessed with power and joined Sauron in his quest for domination. Saruman is the secondary antagonist of the series, and serves as a foil to Gandalf, another wizard who opposes Sauron.
