How do I use the SUM function in Google Sheets?
If you're new to Google Sheets or just want to brush up on your spreadsheet skills, the SUM function is an essential tool that you should definitely learn how to use. This function allows you to add up a range of cells in a column or row, saving you the hassle of manually calculating the total yourself.
To use the SUM function in Google Sheets:
- First, select the cell where you want the total to appear.
- Next, type the equals sign (=) in the cell to start the formula.
- Then, type SUM and an opening parenthesis.
- Select the range of cells you want to add up. You can do this by clicking and dragging the mouse over the cells, or by typing the cell range directly into the formula.
- Close the parenthesis and press enter.
The total of the selected cells will now appear in the cell you selected in step 1.
Keep in mind that you can also use the SUM function to add up multiple ranges of cells by separating each range with a comma within the parenthesis.
