What is the relationship between John Wick and his former trainer, The Director?

John Wick and The Director have a complex relationship. The Director, whose real name is Anjelica Huston's character, is a member of the High Table, which is the ruling council for the world of assassins. She is also the one who trained John when he was starting out as an assassin. The two are shown to have a deep bond, with The Director being a mentor and a motherly figure to John. In the third movie, it is revealed that John and The Director share a debt, which is why John seeks her out for help. In the end, The Director helps John by giving him safe passage to Casablanca, and in doing so, helps him in his quest to eliminate the High Table.
