The Kufra Rocket was a project launched by the German Wehrmacht, during World War II, to create a long-range rocket capable of reaching New York City from a launching site in the Sahara desert.

The project was based at the Kufra Oasis, a remote area in southeastern Libya, and was led by German rocket scientist and engineer Werner von Braun. The rocket, named Project Silbervogel, was designed to travel at hypersonic speed and would be launched vertically with a three-stage liquid-fuel rocket.

The project began in 1938, with the construction of the launching and research facilities, and continued until the end of the war in 1945. Despite the significant resources and funding invested in the project, it was ultimately unsuccessful, and no rockets were ever launched.

The Kufra Rocket was an ambitious project, and the sheer scale of it was unprecedented at the time. Many believe that if the project had been successful, it would have had a significant impact on the outcome of the war.
