Emperor Justin I, also known as Flavius Iustinus, was a Byzantine Emperor who ruled from 518-527 CE. He was born in a peasant family in the province of Illyricum (modern-day Croatia), and began his career in the military as a simple soldier.

Justin I's major achievement was his rise to the throne at the age of 68, after serving as an administrator and commander for many years. He was a wise and just ruler who worked hard to restore the finances and stability of the empire.

One of Justin I's major achievements was the Codex Justinianus, a legal code that he began but was later completed by his nephew Justinian I. This legal code was a compilation of all existing Roman law and became the basis for legal systems in many European countries.

Another major achievement of Justin I was his diplomatic skill. He was able to negotiate treaties with Persia and the barbarian tribes in the north, which helped to secure the borders of the empire. He also improved relations with the church, which had been strained under his predecessor Anastasius I.

Justin I died in 527 CE, and was succeeded by his nephew Justinian I.
